Key performance areas

Learner Support & Therapy

• Conduct assessments and screenings to identify learner needs
• Develop and implement individualised intervention plans (IEPs)
• Provide individual and small-group therapy sessions
• Support learners with sensory integration, fine motor, gross motor, handwriting, self-care and classroom functioning
• Monitor progress and adjust intervention strategies accordingly

Collaboration & School Support

• Work closely with educators, therapists, counsellors and support staff
• Provide classroom strategies and accommodations to support learning
• Participate in case meetings, support team meetings and parent consultations
• Offer teacher guidance and workshops where appropriate

Parent Communication

• Maintain professional communication with parents and caregivers
• Provide progress feedback and home support strategies
• Liaise with external professionals when required

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate learner records, assessment reports and therapy notes
• Assist with term reports and support documentation
• Ensure compliance with school policies and HPCSA standards

Professional Conduct

• Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality
• Maintain professional registration and CPD requirements
• Contribute positively to the school’s culture and multidisciplinary environment

Qualifications, experience and skills

• BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Registered with HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist
• Valid professional indemnity insurance
• Experience working with children in a school or special needs setting (preferred)
• Knowledge of sensory integration, developmental delays, learning barriers and inclusive education practices
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Police clearance
