Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital: First Veterinary Nurse (Outpatients) - 25018 at University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:

• Clinic management (record keeping, hygiene, stock control, care of equipment, safety measures etc.);
• Supervising support staff;
• Administering and monitoring of anaesthesia and sedation;
• Performing emergency procedures (small animals);
• Communicating with patient owners;
• Demonstrating techniques to and instructing students and student nurses;
• Self Development;
• Being flexible to work in other sections in OVAH
• Performing shift dities.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipCurAnim or Dip Vet Nursing); or BVetNurse or equivalent qualification;
• Registered as Veterinary Nurse with the South African Veterinary Council;
• Two years’ experience in veterinary nursing and clinic management.

• Knowledge of small animal nursing procedures, biosecurity measures and procedures and handling of all types of small animals;
• Meticulous about detail, professional and a responsible person;
• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Organizing skills and a strong service orientation;
• Physical mobility;
• Ability to work under pressure and without supervision;
• Computer literacy;
• Ability to work weekends and outside normal working hours when required for continues service delivery in the hospital;
• Willingness to perform shift duties.

• Experience in working in a busy small animal clinic will be an advantage .
