    Part-time Junior SDS Practitioner

    • The Directorate of Higher Education and Support in the Department of Student Development and Support (SDS) has a vacancy for a Junior SDS Practitioner at the Pretoria West Campus. This is a part-time contract position, requiring 19 hours per week, for a period of three months, from October to December 2026.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    • Applicants are required to submit together with the CVs, a standardized application form available from the university intranet as well as recently certified copies of qualifications and identity documents. Failure to comply with this instruction will disqualify the candidate. Further note that candidates may be expected to make a presentation or undergo competency testing.

    Critical Performance Areas:

    • Screening and identification of mental health challenges
    • Containment of presenting difficulties
    • Provide preventative and developmental counselling services and interventions to students
    • Taking part in psycho-educational activities
    • Promotion of primary psychosocial well being
    • Referral to appropriate professionals or other appropriate resources

    Minimum Requirements (Qualification):

    • Honours degree (Psychology) or BPsych/BPsych equivalent
    • Must be a Registered Counsellor (PRC) at the HPCSA

    Minimum Requirements (Experience):

    • 3-years of experience rendering basic counselling services for students at a higher education institution

    Personal competencies:

    • Ability to work with people individually or in groups
    • Ability to manage stress and time effectively
    • Ability to apply and facilitate effective communication.
    • Ability to counsel, mentor and provide guidance.
    • Ability to prioritize and organize, function independently and take responsibility for tasks.
    • Ability to operate effectively in team context.
    • Ability to take initiative and to be creative and innovative.
    • Effective presentation, lecturing and facilitation skills (individuals, group, facilitation, etc.)
    • Ability to apply a professional code of ethics and maintain confidentiality.
