Job Description    

• The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and infrastructure across the Bank’s facilities. This includes water supply, sanitation, solar/electrical geysers and drainage systems. The role maintains plumbing operations that are compliant with health, safety, and building regulations, and supports the organisation’s operational continuity by responding to emergencies, conducting preventative maintenance, and contributing to infrastructure upgrades.

Key Responsibilities    
Plumbing Maintenance and Repairs

• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of plumbing systems across multiple buildings and extensive site infrastructure.
• Repair leaks, blockages, and faulty fixtures, including taps, toilets, pipes, and geysers.
• Maintain water supply and drainage systems to ensure reliable and uninterrupted service.
• Plan and prioritise plumbing maintenance activities in line with operational requirements and building schedules.
• Manage plumbing systems within ageing infrastructure, implementing durable and practical solutions.
• Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies such as burst pipes, flooding, and major blockages, including afterhours callouts to minimise disruption and damage.
• Maintain readiness for urgent callouts, including after-hours emergencies, and respond in a solution-oriented manner to ensure the efficient use of available resources.
• Diagnose plumbing problems, analyse potential solutions, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Keep abreast of new plumbing technologies, tools, and industry practices and recommend improvements to plumbing infrastructure and work processes.

Installation and Upgrades

• Install new plumbing systems, pipelines, and fixtures during building upgrades, refurbishments, or new installations.
• Replace outdated or damaged plumbing components to improve system reliability and efficiency.
• Verify that all installations comply with applicable SANS plumbing standards and municipal regulations.
• Work with contractors and project teams to support infrastructure development and renovation projects.
• Test and commission newly installed plumbing systems to confirm functionality and compliance.

Compliance and Document Management

• Keep abreast of all plumbing regulations and ensure all plumbing work is carried out in accordance with all applicable regulations.
• Adhere to relevant SANS plumbing standards, municipal bylaws, and organisational policies.
• Maintain accurate records of plumbing inspections, repairs, installations, and maintenance activities.
• Support internal audits and compliance reviews related to facilities and plumbing infrastructure.
• Document maintenance activities, repair logs, and installation details for operational transparency.
• Report on plumbing system performance, material usage, and incidents to the Facilities Manager.
• Maintain proper documentation within the organisation’s document management systems to ensure traceability and accountability.

Inventory and Tools Management

• Maintain plumbing tools, equipment, and machinery in safe and operational condition.
• Monitor plumbing materials and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels.
• Manage the inventory of spare parts and plumbing components required for plumbing work and ensure costeffective use of plumbing materials and prevent wastage.
• Facilitate timely procurement or replenishment of plumbing supplies where required.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support

• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders, tenants, and external service providers.
• Provide responsive, reliable, and high-quality plumbing services across organisational facilities.
• Address plumbing-related inquiries and service requests promptly and professionally.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding plumbing issues, repair timelines, and service disruptions.
• Support a customer-focused service environment by proactively addressing plumbing concerns.

Expertise & Technical Competencies    
Minimum Qualification

• Plumbing Trade Test Certificate, including completion of a 3-year apprenticeship
• Solar geyser certificate/accreditation
• Motor vehicle driver’s licence.
• Registration with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) and a valid Plumbing Licence.

Minimum Experience

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in plumbing maintenance, installation and repairs within commercial, industrial or large-scale facilities environments.
• Demonstrated experience in maintaining plumbing systems across large, multi-building sites (e.g. office parks, campuses, or facilities with extensive grounds), including ageing or legacy infrastructure.
• Proven track record in diagnosing complex plumbing faults and implementing effective, sustainable repair solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in solar geyser, heat pump, and hydro boiler repairs and maintenance.
• Proven experience in developing, implementing, and executing preventative maintenance plans, particularly in environments with older infrastructure.
• Sound understanding of SANS plumbing standards and relevant municipal regulations.
• Experience responding to plumbing emergencies and conducting preventative maintenance within commercial or industrial facilities.
• Familiarity with record-keeping and document management systems.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams on infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of water conservation practices and sustainable plumbing solutions.
• Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or environmental compliance.
• Qualification in facilities maintenance or building services.
