    Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant - Gauteng

    Description

    • We are hiring X1 Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to support vaccine logistics and distribution processes to enable COVID-19 vaccines to be integrated into the routine immunization services in the district.

    Programme Outcomes

    • Working in a TA team handling all the pharmaceutical supply chain requirements, working with the pharmacist in charge of the TA teams
    • Ensure the availability and efficient management of vaccine stocks and waste management through real-time data
    • Improve accuracy and compliance of SVS reporting through training
    • Advise and train on vaccine expiry date management and associated waste management
    • Support the implementation of the ideal pharmacy at the facility level
    • Identify training needs for good pharmacy practices and provide training 
    • Ongoing coordination of cold-chain support activities, including gaps identification, training

    Vaccine Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Distribution

    • Ordering of stock and vaccines from the main supplier or the pharmaceutical depot.
    • Distribution of ancillary stock and vaccines from the supplier to the pharmacy and clinics
    • Receive stock and ensure storage of medication and vaccines paying attention to batch numbers and expiry dates.
    • Store medication according to storage requirements and temperatures.
    • Perform temperature control daily for relevant medication.
    • Conduct daily, weekly or bi-weekly stock takes and complete relevant inventory forms and reporting systems as may be required.
    • Check stock dates and if expired, remove from shelves for disposal.
    • Inform and advise the Pharmacist of stock to be ordered and stock rotations.

    Cold Chain Management and Maintenance

    • Support the pharmacist with conducting cold chain equipment surveys and facility assessments to determine cold chain capacity.
    • Ensure that proper temperature monitoring tools for vaccine distribution to clinics and secondary sites are available and used appropriately.
    • Conduct training on appropriate use of cold chain equipment
    • Ensure compliance to SOPs and guidelines for cold chain equipment.

    Data control

    • Entering of data on the pharmacy data system
    • Preparing of the monthly reports
    • Comparison of Pharmacy data to EVDS data and taking appropriate action.

    Effective self-management and performance ownership

    • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self management.
    • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained.
    • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback.
    • Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities such as workshops, forums, conferences etc.
    • Participate and give input in ad hoc projects and initiatives.

    Requirements

    Required minimum education and training.

    • Grade 12 and a Certificate as Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant (1 years) 

    Required minimum work experience

    • Completion of in-service training and examination as required by above certification
