    Post Doctoral Fellow (AD09)

    Department Description        

    • SAMRC/ Wits Developmental Pathways for Health Research unit supported by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation/National Research Foundation (DSTI/NRF) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Human Development at the University of the Witwatersrand seeks to appoint a motivated individual into a Postdoctoral Fellowship. The unit is offering a successful candidate the opportunity to work as part of an exclusive research team for a period of 12 months (with possibility of extension) in areas aligned with the Units’ niches, which are health, nutrition and/or social science.

    Brief Description        
    Required minimum education and training:

    • PhD in Health Sciences (Physiology would be advantageous).
    • Proficient in specific statistical software (i.e., SPSS (AMOS/PROCESS) / STATA / G*Power).
    • Competent in data management (i.e., REDCap).
    • Excellent presentation skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrates a publication record.

    Required minimum work experience:

    • Must have completed PhD
    • Must demonstrate extensive experience in both the fields of physiology and epidemiology.
    • Experience in leading quantitative data collection and analysis.

    Key performance areas:

    • Develop research protocols
    • Obtain approval from relevant ethics and other regulatory bodies.
    • Supervise fieldwork (data collection, interviews etc) and where necessary, conduct data collection.
    • Monitor the progress of research projects
    • Conduct literature reviews and stay abreast with relevant research findings
    • Lead quantitative data analysis and write-up
    • Write and contribute to peer-reviewed publications
    • Identify relevant funding opportunities
    • Write research and funding proposals
    • Contribute towards policy development
    • Attend to all staff requirements and administration duties
    • Contribute towards the development of knowledge within the team by identifying relevant training needs and topics.
