    Job description

    • The TRADE (Trade and Development) research entity at the North-West University (NWU) invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the fields of Development Economics, informal economy, migrant workers, day labourers, and informal entrepreneurship.
    • TRADE is a dynamic and internationally connected research entity with a footprint across all three campuses of the NWU: Potchefstroom, Mahikeng, and Vanderbijlpark. The entity focuses on cutting-edge research in the areas of Development Economics, International Trade, Applied Economics, Financial Markets, Supply Chain, and Transport Economics. We strive to cultivate a research environment that fosters excellence, innovation, and scholarly impact—locally and globally. TRADE’s strong academic networks and collaborative partnerships offer significant opportunities for international research collaboration.
    • The successful candidate will be based at the Potchefstroom Campus, joining a team of experienced researchers with the goal of strengthening scholarly outputs in Economics. Subject to performance, the position may be extended for a third year.

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD in Economics or a closely related field, awarded within the past five years. Preference will be given to applicants who obtained their doctorate from a university other than NWU.
    • Strong skills in mathematical and econometric analysis.
    • A demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications in financial market research.
    • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
    • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
    • A proactive work ethic and experience in securing research funding will be advantageous.
