Principal Deal Originator – Mining & Critical Minerals
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Deal Originator to join a leading South African Development Finance Institution. This strategic role will focus on originating and developing bankable mining and critical minerals transactions across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
This position is ideal for a commercially astute professional with a strong background in mining finance, corporate finance, project finance or structured finance, coupled with exceptional stakeholder engagement and business development capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, originate and develop investment opportunities within the mining and critical minerals sector.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with mining companies, investors, government stakeholders and industry partners.
Assess the commercial and financial viability of investment opportunities.
Structure innovative financing solutions for mining and mineral beneficiation projects.
Prepare and present investment proposals to executive and credit committees.
Represent the organisation at industry forums, conferences and stakeholder engagements.
Support the growth of the mining and critical minerals portfolio across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Minimum Requirements
Relevant degree in Mining Engineering, Finance, Economics, Commerce, Business or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in mining finance, project finance, corporate finance, structured finance or investment banking.
Demonstrated experience in deal origination and transaction execution within the mining or natural resources sector.
Proven ability to engage with executive leadership, boards and senior government stakeholders.
Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
Experience working on transactions across Africa will be highly advantageous.
Willingness to travel extensively within Sub-Saharan Africa.
