Principal Librarian: SEALS Trust and Systems at Rhodes University

Purpose

• The South East Academic Libraries System (SEALS) is an academic consortium for the university libraries in the Eastern Cape.
• SEALS' mission is to support high standards of learning, teaching, research, and scholarship in member institutions through innovative library services and technologies.
• The main purpose of this job is to provide systems support to staff at the member libraries, to develop and maintain the SEALS website and for managing the administration of the SEALS Office. The incumbent is also responsible for determining training needs, developing training material and offer ongoing training to staff at the four SEALS member Libraries.

Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (NQF level 8) OR a 3-year Degree, plus a 1-year Post-Graduate Library Diploma (NQF level 8) plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: - 

• Having worked in a computerised academic and/or research library
• In-depth knowledge of library management systems such as Sierra or Millennium
• Proven experience in cataloguing and metadata management
• Clear understanding of electronic resource management principles
• Proven experience in web design and web management
• Previous exposure to IT applications and electronic library & information tools
• Proven training experience management
