The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) organization is responsible for developing key services that power Oracle's cloud solutions across all layers of the IaaS/SaaS/PaaS stack. Our primary focus areas are scale, performance and reliability.

The Cape Town development centre is currently looking for hands-on engineers. We are tackling one of the most complex problems the cloud industry is facing - enabling large enterprise customers to move to the cloud. This entails moving large amounts of data, as well as migrating configuration and identity info, over some challenging network topologies while providing a "it just works" user experience. The team provides an opportunity to work across multiple different cloud services while building it’s own cloud native service to migrate entire workloads.

We are looking for passionate software engineers at all levels who
- Can rapidly develop production level code, keeping scalability and robustness in mind
- Have a solid grounding in computer science fundamentals, who can easily pick up a new programming language
- Enjoy working in an innovative and collaborative environment
- Can do operational support on an on-call roster basis including
- Hands-on operational support for product issues escalated to the development team by the front line operations teams.
- Monitoring operational support slack channels and health dashboards.
- Providing insightful troubleshooting and optimal solutions based on a deep understanding of the product.
What you need as a minimum
- BSc in Computer Science or similar degree (or commensurate experience with a proven track record)
- 8+ years of experience with scripting and non-scripting programming languages (Python and Java preferred)
- An ability to demonstrate logical thinking, decisiveness and drive in taking on and completing tasks
Plus preferred experiences that we are looking for
- Principal candidates are expected to demonstrate more of these skills than less experienced candidates.
- Software development experience with distributed, highly scalable, multi-node environments
- Strong understanding of virtual machine technologies, networking and storage systems
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Extensive Linux experience, both command-line and system level knowledge
- Advanced understanding of cluster architecture expected
- Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
Example Responsibilities:
- Design and develop Java based microservices with REST APIs
- Design and develop python based operational tooling
- Implement and analyse service metrics to drive service improvements
- Set a high quality bar for services right from the design stage through to production e.g. end to end testing, monitoring and alerting.
