    Principal Specialist: Technology Resilience Mob and Fixed

    Role Purpose/Business Unit:

    • To manage and implement telecom fixed or mobile Networks technology resilience principles and best practice across all Vodacom markets and Subsidiaries with more than 50% ownership, referred to as entities.
    • To ensure that new and revised Vodafone Network resilience & Competitiveness policies, guidelines, standards and requirements are communicated and implemented by technology groups across all Vodacom markets.
    • To draft specific Vodacom Group technology resilience policies and related procedures applicable to all Vodacom entities.
    • To enhance existing procedures, standards and guidelines to develop and maintain technical recovery plans and procedures and implement enhanced procedures and solutions.
    • To ensure that knowledge regarding technology resilience concepts and requirements is transferred to the Vodacom entities.
    • To develop and maintain a technical recovery toolkit to ensure implementation of effective technical recovery plan maintenance including Technology Impact Assessment (TIA) and the interface with business-as-usual processes and systems.
    • To develop resilience strategies applicable to technologies supporting critical services across Vodacom entities.
    • To perform risk reviews using a consistent methodology on technologies that support Vodacom’s critical services and to evaluate single points of failures and threats which could cause service level unavailability.
    • To implement cost effective solutions whilst considering optimal design criteria for resilience and mitigating critical risks. 
    • To liaise with all technology groups across the Vodacom entities and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to ensure that adequate resilience and redundancy arrangements are in place for current and future technologies.
    • To develop and execute end-to-end testing strategies to ensure an auditable and proven recovery capability for Vodacom’s technologies supporting its critical services.
    • To create position papers with regards to technology resilience for the organisation.
    • Effectively pursue improvement opportunities through research while ensuring consistency across multiple functional areas.
    • To perform research in the field of business continuity and maintain expert knowledge within the field on current legislative, risks, technology and industry best practice.
    • To undertake other projects as required under the control of the Executive head: Business Resilience.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • To manage and coordinate the Network Resilience & Competitiveness policy requirements across the Vodacom Group AMAP community.
    • To ensure that all related technology resilience objectives and topics are driven through the Group Technology Resilience Governance Board and senior management structures.
    • To ensure that technology risks, policy sub-risks and associated single points of failure are assessed, managed, monitored and mitigated in cooperation with the business and enterprise risk management. To implement selected cost-effective mitigation controls.
    • To assist in the development and optimisation of resilience strategies in line with Vodafone design guidelines across the Vodacom entities.
    • To research specific industry trends and update applicable procedures, standards and guidelines and maintain the toolkit to ensure the successful maintenance and testing of technology recovery strategies and systems.
    • To enhance methodologies and information systems through innovation to support, assist and guide network design and planning to ensure conformance to policy and good practice.

    The ideal candidate for this role will have:

    • A degree or equivalent qualification in telecommunication engineering (essential)
    • MBA will be advantages.
    • Additional professional relevant certification will be an advantage including PECB Certified Lead Disaster Recovery Manager

    Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience within Mobile and Fixed Line technology architecture and or engineering (essential)
    • 3–5 years’ experience in technology resilience and related projects (essential)
    • Managing of highly professional teams (essential)
    • Have in-depth knowledge of Vodacom’s Mobile and Fixed line architecture and domain functions (advantage)
    • Experience in Business Continuity Management and knowledge of ISO22301 and BCI Good Practice Guidelines (advantage)
    • Willing to travel (up to 40% of time within Africa.)
