    Process Engineer I (106424)

    Short Description / Purpose of Job 

    The Process Engineer I supports the execution of engineering, design, and technical solutions development in accordance with sound, established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements. Work is carried out independently in an agile manner according to approved work process, with support provided where appropriate by peers and Senior engineers within the technical community as well as the partner engineering contractor.

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    • Engineering support to the licensing team in providing technology support to operating facilities which use Sasol’s proprietary Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch technology. Development of front-end engineering packages (Early Engagement, Process Design Packages, Engineering Design Packages) on International projects that uses Sasol’s proprietary Fischer-Tropsch technology.  Execute FEL studies on behalf the Southern African regional operating hub, under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. Review detail engineering documentation and provide technical support during the commissioning, and start-up phases of project so as to assist the licensing team in ensuring that the licensor design intent is protected through all phases of the project.

    FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

    • Tactical Implementation
    • Implement the agreed-to technical execution strategies including licensing, in-house technology development and appropriate use of ECs.
    • Utilise value chain optimisation tools, including adoption of digital platforms, and standards that enhance the efficiency of workflows within project studies.
    • Guide the work of the Engineering Contractor, as per the study/project requirements.
    • Value Chain Innovation Optimisation.

    Planning and Project Execution

    • Knowledge of relevant procedures, specifications and legal frameworks relevant to the studies being executed.
    • Responsiveness and agility in executing studies.
    • Develop technical execution plans to provide clear schedules outlining all process development activities.

    Governance, Compliance and Risk Management

    • Identify, review and report on process risks impact within a project and identify suitable mitigation plans to address these risks.
    • Ensure that critical deliverables are signed-off by identified peers.
    • Compliance to environmental, safety and legal specifications.
    • Ensure that Tools and standards and workflows are applied appropriately.
    • Provide Process Engineering quality control oversight to their own work and work done by partner engineering contractors.

    Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

    • Report on the performance of their own studies and projects.
    • Provide high quality services to the service requestor to match agreed project requirements.
    • Provide input concerning lessons learnt.
    • Employ key peer project reviewers to assure the delivery of high quality deliverables.
    • Grow fundamental knowledge and gain experience in relevant technologies and process engineering applications
    • Maintain relationships with SME’s and stakeholders internal and external to Sasol

    Formal Qualification

    • University Bachelor's Degree - Chemical

    Min Experience

    • 3+ relevant years
    •  Knowledge of the Fischer Tropsch process, particularly the GTL/XtL value chain, will be a strong advantage in selecting the successful candidate.
