Process Safety Management Coordinator at Anglo American

Job Description:

As a Process Safety Management Coordinator , you will  assist with the deployment of the integrated Process Safety Management (PSM) program including development of standards, procedures, and guidelines as well as key performance indicators.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Co-ordinate or facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, etc. on existing, new, and modified processes and define effective risk management controls
• Support and coordinate process safety management assessment during operational risk assurance (ORA) reviews and project toll-gate reviews, detailed design reviews, and operational risk reviews (ORR) / management system reviews
• Co-ordinate and oversee the management of PSM improvement actions from PHA, PSM compliance audits, and Tier I and 2 process safety event (PSE) investigations are identified and tracked to timeous closure
• Provide expert process safety engineering advice to design, construction, maintenance, engineers and operating personnel
• Co-ordinate and support the development and deployment of Process Safety Management training and toolkits within Anglo American Platinum for respective stakeholders.
  This role is at our Rosebank Corporate Office, at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager Process Safety for Mining.

Qualifications:

• An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Fire Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or similar relevant technical discipline with a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
• A postgraduate qualification in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Fire Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health will be advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in process safety management.
• Expertise and proven track record developing process safety management programs including conducting Process Hazard Analysis such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, etc
• Experience in safety engineering standards such as NFPA, API, SANS, ANSI, ATEX, etc
• Demonstrated expertise in applying root cause analysis in process safety event investigations.
• Track record leading ideas generation, translation of these into practical initiatives with demonstrated success in process safety management in a global / regional context.
• Track record of acting as an operational coach, advisor, and mentor in a technical discipline with change management expertise.
• Track record of operational experience within a large mining, manufacturing, or related industry
• Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing within a sub-discipline, managing workload, and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency with task requirements
