Product Manager (App)

• At JaSure (Santam), we are putting digital insurance in the hands of consumers. We are the only digital insurer in South Africa offering on-demand cover for your prized portables e.g. phones, laptops, bicycles etc. We also offer on-demand car insurance that saves you money when you’re not driving your car.  We are still at the beginning of our journey to redefine personal insurance for the 21st century and make short-term insurance simpler, easier and more affordable.
• The Product team works at the core of the business to research, design and deliver offerings that our customers love. We are looking for a Product Manager to own the Mobile App (iOS and Android). Your ultimate goal is to establish JaSure as South Africa’s favourite insurance App. You enjoy moving fluidly between strategic thinking and product delivery and execution. You will report to the Head of Product and work daily with a squad of designers, engineers, testers and others. You will be the first Product Manager in a team that will be growing to three PMs by 2024. You’ll work with leaders from across the business—as well as external stakeholders—to deliver on our business goals.

Responsibilities
Strategic Thinking

• Understands the company strategy and where their work fits in.
• Sets the strategic direction for the JaSure App, in close collaboration with the Head of Product and the broader leadership team.
• Stays abreast of the mobile technology landscape and identifies opportunities to leverage emerging capabilities of mobile platforms and devices.
• Thinks critically about prioritisation decisions and makes smart trade-offs.
• Identifies new opportunities to move the needle for the business.

Analytics and Technical Skills

• Seeks to understand the end-to-end technology environment and architecture.
• Fulfils the role of Product Owner within the Agile software delivery environment (backlog grooming, sprint planning, ticket development etc.)
• Creates thorough specifications incorporating core and edge cases. Collaborates effectively with engineering on data model design and system architecture.
• Conducts rigorous testing to ensure a high quality end product.
• Understands and improves the App analytics environment and proactively uses data to inform design or prioritisation decisions.

Problem Solving and User Understanding

• Conducts formative product discovery and user research to understand the problem, solution space, and user needs.
• Validates design decisions through user testing and/or research.
• Partners closely with Design on user experience decisions.
• Can quickly troubleshoot and diagnose bugs and issues.

Collaboration and Communication

• Maintains strong and effective working relationships with peers.
• Builds effective partnerships with counterparts in other departments.
• Contributes to cross-functional initiatives in a collaborative manner.

Leadership

• Helps build and improve the Product team, tools,  and ways of working
• Supports recruitment processes within Product and in other functional areas

Qualifications and experience

• 5+ years digital product management experience (e.g. Product Manager, Product Owner).
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience product managing a Mobile App (Android and iOS).
• Experience in a start-up environment is advantageous
• Business and system analysis experience is advantageous
• Experience in Insurance or Financial Services is advantageous.
• Experience with product analytics platforms e.g. Firebase, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Kissmetrics etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Passionate about the Tech industry and has an eye towards the future.
