Production Supervisor Furnaces (Shift) (Witbank) at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To supervise the safe and cost-effective execution of all production related activities, ensuring the achievement of production and quality targets, and ensuring high quality shift and shutdown maintenance workmanship. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 
Safety, Health, Environment and Quality:

•  Ensure SHEQ compliance within the team through effective use of the SHEQ Toolbox.
•  Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
•  Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
•  Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
•  Ensure adherence to health, safety, environment, and risk policies and procedures (SHEQ Toolbox).

People:
Supervise the Team:

•  Ensure an enabling climate/culture
•  Maintain labour stability by minimising labour turnover:
•  Labour complement in line with budget
•  Manage performance against set targets and competencies
•  Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
•  Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent                (quarterly)
•  Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
•  Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
•  Conduct recruitment interviews
•  Manage staff related issues in the team e.g. monitor trends and patterns of performance, absenteeism and overtime
•  Manage team with regards to performance, overtime, misconduct and development by ensuring an enabling climate/culture is maintained, resources are managed to suite operational requirements and corrective action is taken in accordance with policies and procedures.

Customers:

•  Ensure customer requirements are met in line with relevant service level agreements.

BUSINESS PROCESSES:

Production:

 Monitor and control the operation according to established operating standards and procedures relating to:

•  Electrode management
•  Metallurgical control
•  Taphole and Post-taphole management
•  Lining Management
•  Raw materials management
•  Supervise the operation of all additional auxiliary processes according to established operating standards and procedures i.e., Dust plant operations, and cooling systems.
•  Supervise production operations
•  Achieve production targets
•  Achieve production quality

 Unplanned Interventions:

•  Prioritise breakdown and authorize work
•  Arrange resources
•  Assess risks related to unplanned jobs

Feedback & Reporting:

•  Report plant status and equipment/process defects/deviations by updating the Production Management System, conducting routine inspections, providing feedback reports and following the shift handover process
•  Complete the shift report
•  Update the MES and KPI’s

Responsibilities:

•  Operate plant within designated parameters, achieving production targets
•  Conduct plant process inspections
•  Actively manage planned and unplanned tasks to be completed during shift
•  Analyse and interpret production results, identify and assess deviation, initiate and take corrective action using available resource
•  Manage staff related issues in the team e.g., monitor trends and patterns of performance, absenteeism and overtime
•  Take corrective action in accordance with policies and procedures

 Provide inputs for compiling the operations and maintenance budgets, and adhering to budget constraints

Maintenance:

•  Supervise the execution of planned- and unplanned shutdown- and First-line maintenance activities by effectively arranging- and prioritizing resources and assessing the associated risk.

Resources:

•  Effectively manage production consumables through stock management and following the procurement process. Arrange and procure material and services on an ad-hoc basis
