Production Technician at SARAO - South African Radio Astronomy Observatory

• The production technician is required to assemble and test electronic modules and systems designed and produced by SARAO.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce Receiver Systems, modules and components according to manufacturing data packs.
• Provide logistics engineering support to Receiver systems deployed to the field
• Integrate, test and troubleshoot of modules and systems
• Compile test procedure and reports
• Procurement of components and equipment required for Receiver production or laboratory needs.

Key Requirements:
Qualification:

• National Diploma: Electronics / Electrical
• Valid divers licence

Experience:

• 5 years electronic testing experience in the following areas:
• RF module testing and fault finding
• Digital module testing and fault finding
• Electronic systems testing and fault finding
• Hands-on experience in PCB manufacturing, assembly, repair and testing.
• Quality standards for electronic production (ISO 9001)
• Training and/or knowledge of IPC standards
• Use of electronic test equipment PSU, Spectrum analyser, Signal generator, Oscilloscope etc.

Knowledge:

• Good understanding of circuit testing methods and techniques
• Good understanding of RF modules and components
• Understanding of electronic design
• Understanding and interpretation of component datasheets
• Understanding of circuit diagrams and PCB layout designs
• Technical report writing
• Experience with Linux operating systems and python scripting is advantageous.
• Experience with fibre optic applications is advantageous.
