Grade 12 with basic qualification accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice R425 (i.e. Diploma / Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, must have a basic qualification in Psychiatric Nursing Science. Registration certificate with SANC as a Professional Nurse and current practicing certificate.
Less than 10 years relevant experience as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing . Advance psychiatric qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience in mental health nursing will be an added advantage.A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
Knowledge of mental health legislations and related legal and ethical practices, PFMA and Public Service Act and Regulations. Good communication, interpersonal, financial and human resource management skills. Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context. Analytical thinking, independent decision making and problem-solving skills.
Able to plan and organize own work. COMPETENCIES: FUNCTIONAL: Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practises. Duties :
Monitoring and supporting the renewal of existing, or approval of new licenses for NGOs as set by Gauteng Department of Health. Write and submit quarterly audit reports with recommendations to the District Office.
Conduct planned and unplanned quarterly audits and inspections for NGO’s, to monitor compliance to Service Level Agreement, Funding Agreement, adherence to norms and standards and licence conditions (bed capacity, MHCU category). Provision of administrative services. Ensuring that all NGOs are operating in line with SLA and guidelines prescripts.
Ensure records of residential and day care facilities profiles including the number of MHCUs including disease profile and monthly statistics as prescribed. Providing mental health promotion and prevention interventions. Capacity development – train and educate caregivers to implement appropriate self-help and peer-led services.
Participate in mental health prevention and promotion activities. Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with key stakeholders (inter-professional, inter- and multidisciplinary team members) Establish and maintain referral and back-referral pathways for NGO’s mental health care users.
Collaborate with inter-sectoral partners to ensure that the human rights of MHCUs in NGO’s are observed. Training.
Continuous self-study, and professional development, ensuring awareness of new professional development and research. Assess training needs in the NGO’s and in the community to establish routine ongoing training and supervision. Ensure active community-based rehabilitation programs, through training of community health workers.
