CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to lead and manage studio based architectural education particularly at master’s level by integrating theoretical and pragmatic knowledge that is globally and locally relevant and in alignment with the vision of the department.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Facilitate studio-based learning processes in the architecture department at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of postgraduate studies, publications, and supervision.
• To perform academic administration.
• Participate in projects targeted at community service and engagement.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Experience in leading an architectural design studio at postgraduate level.
• Ability to facilitate learning in architecture at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
• In depth knowledge in the fields of design, architectural theory, human settlements and urban design, and the application of environmental principles in design.
• Ability to actively engage in and supervise post graduate research.
• Ability to synthesize information to design learning experiences.
• Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences through various media.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in Architecture with a minimum of 4-7 years of professional experience and a teaching profile.
• The applicant must have professional registration with the SACAP.
• Substantial evidence of relevant experience exhibiting competency in line with the relevant post which must include a research portfolio, papers published in accredited journals and subject-specific conference proceedings and an A3 portfolio consisting of selected architectural projects authored by the applicant.
