    Professor/Associate Professor (Faculty of Law: Various Departments) (X6 Posts)

    Job description

    • Department of Procedural Law / Department of Private Law / Department of Mercantile Law / Department of Public Law
    • The Faculty of Law offers the traditional law programmes BA Law, BCom Law and LLB, as well as coursework and researchdirected LLM degrees and LLD degrees in various important fields. In addition to these degrees, the Faculty has a strong division for non-subsidised programmes that offers postgraduate diplomas, certificates and short courses in specialised areas.

    Responsibilities:

    • Teaching and coordinating one or more modules offered by the Faculty of Law.
    • Teach courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Maintain a portfolio of teaching activities of high-quality reputation and impact (as evidenced by student evaluations, peer assessment, etc.) across a range of modules or within a subject area to relevant levels.
    • Lead benchmarking and continual improvement activities to e-learning to ensure best practices in teaching and learning support are adopted in the department/faculty.
    • Will be responsible for teaching, developing, managing, and writing study material for modules in English at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
    • Will be required to be actively involved in research and publications.
    • Supervising masters and doctoral students.
    • Academic administration, management and development.
    • Faculty and departmental administrative and other activities and community service.
    • Performing other duties as delegated by the Head of the Department.

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant doctoral degree.
    • At least five years’ experience in the academic environment.
    • Experience in curriculum development.
    • Proven significant research output.
    • Recognised academic leadership.
    • Evidence of community engagement.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to prepare proposals and submissions to external bodies for funding and accreditation purposes

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Excellent communication and writing skills.
    • Ability to work as a member of a department and faculty.

    Recommendations:

    • NRF rating or eligibility to apply
    • Ability to teach in one of the following areas: law of evidence; criminal procedure; legal skills; property law; legal technology; commercial law; criminal law
