    Public Policy Program Manager – Middle East & Africa

    Description

    Would you like to be part of a public policy team that is driving the adoption of cloud computing across Middle East & Africa (MEA)? Amazon Web Services (AWS)* is the leading provider of cloud computing services, providing IT infrastructure offerings such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services and more. The AWS Public Policy team is at the forefront of helping customers maximize the benefits of cloud computing by addressing regulatory and political blockers to cloud adoption.

    The Public Policy Program Manager, MEA, will join a growing, dynamic AWS Public Policy team and will enhance Amazon’s advocacy on cloud adoption issues.
    They will be tasked with driving some of the most important projects with cross-functional teams, including Public Sector, Commercial Sector, Infrastructure, PR, Legal and HR, to ensure cohesion and alignment. This position requires regular communication with executive management on status, risks and strategy. The Policy Program Manager will create and manage milestone schedules and will be responsible for ensuring that critical dates are met, or escalating when regulatory risks exist.
    The right person for this role will have solid experience delivering successful projects, communicating effectively to stakeholders and working closely with the cross-functional teams to deliver scalable programs. Our environment is very fast-paced and requires someone who is flexible, energetic, a "doer", biased for action, very detail-oriented, holds high personal standards and is comfortable tracking many threads across many teams. They will also anticipate bottlenecks, look around corners, dive deep and work to ensure barriers are removed.

    AWS is looking for candidates with strong analytical, organizational and written communication skills. The successful candidate will coordinate efforts with local and global AWS teams to ensure alignment between core business priorities and public policy goals, and map progress against our goals.

    Responsibilities
    This UAE or South Africa-based position reports to the Director for AWS Public Policy, Middle East & Africa, and includes the following responsibilities

    • Manage advocacy programs alongside policy specialists across the MEA region, with a focus on promoting cloud adoption
    • Take ownership of drafting briefing documents, engaging with industry associations on behalf of AWS and producing monthly business reports for partner teams
    • Develop policy collateral and contribute to internal knowledge sharing tools, while maintaining consistent internal communications through policy updates and reports
    • End-to-end management of policy program events with PR, Security Assurance and Partner teams
    • Gather requirements from appropriate business owners, write clear and detailed requirements, prioritize activity, and drive projects through completion in collaboration with partner teams
    • Develop research and information management tools that increase information flow from multilateral institutions, think tanks and industry groups.

    The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The responsibilities require that candidates be willing and able to make frequent trips across Africa and, as needed, to Brussels, Dublin, Seattle and other locations.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact in corporate, political and/or educational institutions.
    • 4+ years of experience working in a large company or association, preferably in the technology sector or in a consulting environment, with a track record in program management delivery.
    • Nimbleness and comfort with ambiguity; comfort responding quickly to rapidly evolving threats and opportunities
    • Strong bias for action; ability to juggle multiple priorities and create a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Must have fluent written and spoken English.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others.
    • Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures as well as working independently.
    • Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
    • Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
    • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.). An advanced degree is preferred.
