QA Technologist (Supplier/Factory Inspector) at Pepkor Speciality

Job Description    

• We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled QA Technologist to join our Merchandise team as a Supplier/Factory Inspector. You will provide comprehensive technical quality assurance and factory inspection support across the entire product lifecycle, ensuring that all merchandise is manufactured and delivered in strict accordance with approved samples, technical specifications, construction standards, measurements, and overall quality requirements.

Qualifications    

• A Grade 12 Certificate.
• A relevant degree or qualification in Fashion Textile Design, Clothing Production, Product Development, Merchandising, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience    

• A minimum of 3-5 years' relevant experience in clothing manufacturing, garment quality assurance, technical production, or retail quality.
• Experience conducting supplier/factory inspections is essential.
• Experience in apparel manufacturing and bulk production is highly advantageous.
• Experience working with technical specifications, approved samples, and garment measurements.
• Experience identifying and managing garment defects.
• Experience working directly with local and/or international suppliers and factories.
• Retail or fashion industry experience preferred.
• Experience with third-party inspection processes is advantageous.
• Strong garment construction and technical knowledge, with excellent inspection and defect identification skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Valid Drivers’ Licence 
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English.

Key Responsibilities    

• Interpreting and applying approved technical specifications, quality standards, and product requirements, and conducting detailed technical assessments of garments and other merchandise categories.
• Conducting scheduled and ad-hoc supplier and factory inspections at appropriate stages of the production process, and identifying production risks that could impact quality, delivery, or customer satisfaction.
• Conducting pre-production readiness, first-off, in-line, final, and bulk inspections, verifying production against approved samples and recommending corrective action where standards are not met.
• Identifying, classifying, and documenting product defects (critical, major, and minor), investigating root causes, and following up with suppliers on corrective and preventative actions.
• Checking measurements, construction, seams, stitching, trims, finishes, fabric, colour, print, labelling, and packaging against approved specifications.
• Monitoring supplier quality performance, contributing to scorecards and performance reviews, and completing accurate, well-documented factory and production inspection reports.
