    Quality Assurance Manager

    About the job
    Job purpose

    • Actively participate in and ensure that all customer, engineering and company process requiremets as well as safety and legal requirements applicable to specific development projects of responsibility are met.
    • Represents SHERQ on the DR&T product development & design and industrialisation processes.
    • Monitor the current Regulatory Affairs procedures according to changing requirements to the organisation and according to changing legislation.
    • Represent SHERQ As a Member of the Design Safety Review board and as a member of the Airworthiness team.
    • Manage and coordinate the Risk Management process through all organisational business processes.
    • Manage and execute internal and external provider First Article Inspections as per the requirements of AS9102.
    • Manage the control, return and disposal of non-conforming items.

    Qualifications

    • B.Eng (Electronic or Mechanical) Degree or equivalent (NQF 6)
    • Diploma in Quality Management (e.g.: City & Guilds of London Institute, or American Society of Quality Controllers (ASQC))

    Ideal experience required

    • In total 15 - 20 years’ experience and exposure to the application of safety, health, environmental and quality systems, quality techniques, and business process improvement during high complexity defense system development and production.
    • Exposure to electro-optical product and systems engineering.
    • Experience in ensuring quality adherence to quality processes during design reviews, baseline audits and progress meetings.
    • Key technical skills and experience required
    • Experience in a design, manufacturing and after sales support environment. Experience in a design, manufacturing and after sales support environment.
    • Experience in optical, mechanical and/or electronic design and electro-optical products, product design and assembly will be an advantage.
    • Knowledge and interest in world best-practices in quality control techniques. Knowledge and interest in world best-practices in quality control techniques.
    • A thorough understanding of QA principles and processes relevant to the development phase of an aerospace/defence product, including the impact of statuary and regulatory requirements.
    • A thorough understanding of the System Engineering Life Cycle process and System Engineering activities e.g. establishment of specifications, assessment of verification reports and specialist engineering activities such as modelling, EMC engineering, Reliability Engineering and ILS.
    • A thorough understanding of the development processes associated with:
    1. Mechanics, including fine and precision mechanics Optics.
    2. Electronic subsystems
    3. Software (Embedded and Applications)
    • An understanding of the relevant production processes (manufacturing, procurement, assembly and testing) as well as product industrialization.
    • An understanding of Configuration Management and Baseline Control.
    • Knowledge of Project Management and Risk Management processes.
    • Thorough knowledge of the QMS within the company.

    Key responsibility areas

    Quality plans:

    • Generate and maintain the Quality Plan for product development. Ensure that tailoring of the QMS are within the bounds of the relevant contractual and statuary requirements.

    Project Management

    • Ensure, through guidance and oversight, that:
    • Project execution aligns with the PMP and QAP.
    • CM aligns with the CMP.
    • Reports are a true reflection of affairs.
    • Contractual compliance has been achieved prior to issuing a CoC.

    System Engineering

    • Ensure, through guidance and oversight, that System Engineering:
    • Execution aligns with the SEMP, QAP and best practice
    • Outputs (eg specification and reports) are the outcome of the prescribed processes and of sound technical integrity, including compliance with Safety and Regulatory requirements.

    Design and Research

    • Ensure, through guidance and oversight, that Design:
    • Execution aligns with SEMP, QAP and CMP.
    • Outputs (eg reports) are the outcome of the prescribed processes and of sound integrity (eg as established at design reviews).
    • Deliverables is of sound integrity prior to issuing a CoC.
    • Ensure, through guidance and oversight, that Integration and Verification:
    • Execution aligns with SEMP, TEMP and QAP.
    • Reports, outputs and deliverables are the results of prescribed processes is of sound integrity prior to issuing a CoC
