Regulatory Lead at Yoco

THE ROLE | WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? 

Key areas of responsibility for this role are:

• Regulatory Strategy Development: Work with global and/or regional teams, partners, regulators and other stakeholders to influence and shape Yoco’s regulatory strategy. Set and execute strategic objectives aligned to regional and global regulatory policy objectives.

• Regulatory Leadership: Design and implement, within the wider risk framework, structures and processes that integrate the principles of effective regulatory risk management into daily operations, encourage behavioural change and drive good governance across the company.

• Regulatory Planning:  Determine the overall priorities for the regulatory pillar of Yoco’s Risk & Regulatory function including acting as the liaison for all regulatory reporting and interactions. Set and agree headcount and financial budgets necessary to deliver business objectives for regulatory-related activities

Core competencies required to perform responsibilities successfully:

• Policy development: Responsible for developing and recommending a suite of policies appropriate for underpin the ongoing governance / monitoring / challenge of the company's business performance in accordance with regulations.

• Policy Shaping: Working in partnership with risk and regulatory specialists across the region and globally to evolve regulatory best practises and shaping local policy. This will include supporting and developing effective regulatory policies and methodologies appropriate to the company internally.

• Systematic Regulatory Risk Analysis (SRRA): Responsible for maintenance, roll-out and periodic review of the SRRA’s across the Yoco Group

• Driving Regulatory Awareness: Enhancing regulatory awareness through regular communication and by ensuring required staff training is provided.

• Reporting: Evaluate the current status of regulatory  activities through the completion of periodic reviews with regulatory specialists, as well as attendance at relevant committee meetings and taking appropriate action to address any shortfalls. Formal interaction with the Board, regulators, industry bodies and/or other stakeholders.

• Oversight and Quality Control: Oversight of first-line regulatory functions involving; supporting, checking  and challenging entities regulatory processes and behaviours.

• Monitoring: Monitoring processes, systems and standards of behaviour across all business areas in the region, countering the risk that the Yoco Group might be exposed to in the areas of  data privacy, business conduct and/or governance. Identifying opportunities for improvement and taking action to redress shortfalls to ensure the Risk & Regulatory function and as a whole is compliant with the companies key policies and identify and manage any conflicts of interest and information wall controls.

IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?  

Experience

• Direct experience of working in an advocacy or legislative role, preferably from a previous role in financial services 

• Demonstrated success in the influencing of legislation and policy

• In-depth knowledge of MENA financial services landscape and its mechanisms

• Demonstrated experience in building relationships with policy makers, stakeholders and other influencers

• Direct or indirect experience and knowledge of communications and public relations

Education

• Degree: Bachelors or higher degree preferred 

• Field of study preference in Law, International Relations & Communications, Political Science or Economics or related fields

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7+ years working experience in the area of governmental affairs, policy, law and/or  financial services regulation 

• Strong knowledge of MENA political, public & private financial services environment and regulatory landscape

• Proven track record in strategy formulation through to execution

• An excellent communicator with an ability to influence decision making
