Job Advert Summary    
Rand Water Institute is currently looking for a Research and Development Manager to Ensure alignment of the research undertaken to the Strategic Risk Register of Rand Water; Oversee the Research programme of RWI; Foster collaboration through formal Memoranda of Understanding with Stakeholders (national & global) with local and global Research and Academic Institutions; Participation as part of multidisciplinary Research Teams; Foster Corporate positioning of Rand Water Institute as a Research and Development Water and Sanitation Sector Leader; Development and review of the RnD Policy & Strategy; and Facilitate Research within the Catchment and River Basin Organizations in pursuit of technical and scientific solutions for Rand Water;

Minimum Requirements    
Education

• A Master’s Degree minimum plus 10 years’ exposure to broad management and interfacing with Executive and Board;

Experience

• Experience in Scientific and Engineering Programme Management;
• Management capability to support enhance empirical Research;
• Experience in participation on Research studies at various levels;
• Ability to work as part of a Research Team in the area of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM);
• Minimum of 10 years in the Research and Development environment; and
• Ability to align Enterprise wide Risk Management to Research Priorities to support the Operations at Rand Water.

Primary Duties    

• Coordination of all RnD Projects (at Group level) to support Strategy realization;
• Ensure RnD Plans are aligned to and supports Strategy execution;
• Management of the RnD Outcomes for Rand Water;
• Generate Research to support Business sustainability;
• Prepare Research Papers showcasing RW Capabilities;
• Facilitate Risk directed Research;
• Custodian of Risk Research Report;
• Information Sharing & optimization of Research results;
• Budget management: planning, monitor and execution for the Research and Development Programme;
• Inclusion of Research Projects within the Annual Procurement Plan;
• Establish Business Process to ensure seamless value chain;
• Efficient Stakeholder Engagements;
• Stakeholder Management;
• Policy Review & Development through Policy Review Committee;
• Stakeholder directed Research; and
• Interact with a multi-disciplinary Research team of professionals within and external to the organization.

Knowledge    

• Operate at a strategic level to support the provision of solutions to operationalise the implementation of the Innovation Risk based Rand Water Strategy;
• Providing an enabling environment for research and development and knowledge production that promotes strategy;
• Strategically develop, promote and manage national and international relationships and opportunities to strengthen collaboration in RnD and innovation;
• Minimum Knowledge: POPIA, Water Services Act, National Water Act, PFMA, CIDB, FIDIC, SANS, ISO, etc.;
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of bulk water services/utilities environment in large corporates;
• In-depth knowledge of relevant statutory requirements;
