    Research Team Manager (Agronomy) (Potchefstroom)

    Description

    • Responsible for strategic planning, drafting of business plan and reporting in progress to institute, corporate and funders nationally and internationally.
    • Ensure effective technology transfer through scientific and popular publications, lectures, seminars and congresses.
    • Initiatives of the multidisciplinary team across the commodities, leading the generation and commercialisation of Intellectual Property.
    • Providing scientific leadership in a project management and coordination. 
    • Ensure focus of projects are in line with ARC’s goals and strategic imperatives as well as needs and requirements of funders.
    • Resource management – guidance and financial control of project budget planning and utilization as well leading the team on the acquisition of funders from several sources.
    • Team management including planning, recruitment, utilization, training, motivation and performance evaluation of personnel in the section.
    • Planning and coordinating the infrastructure requirements, maintenance and capital needs of the team to enable effective execution of the research plan.
    • Identification of shortcomings in existing equipment and infrastructure and development of solutions.
    • Technology transfer – planning, training, guidance of team members in effective technology transfer. 
    • Reporting to external funders and screening of all manuscripts and related information and publications.
    • Proven track record of research management in the specific field of expertise with extensive publication record.

    Requirements

    • PhD or DSc in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crop Production, or Soil Science.
    • At least 8 years post-PhD experience.
    • At least 8 years’ experience in the management of research teams in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crop production, or Soil Science.
    • Proven track record of research management in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crop Production, or Soil Science.
    • Minimum of 20 peer-reviewed publications in DHET (Dept of Higher Education and Training) approved journals by time of appointment.
    • NRF rating of at least C1 will be an added advantage.
    • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
    • Proven track record for generating external income for the programme and projects in the programme.
    • Proven track record of building national and international partnerships and networks.
    • Proven track record of strategic and operational planning skills and expertise.
    • Proven recognition as a research leader on a national and international level.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
    • Valid driver's license
