Residential Security Technician at U.S. Embassy South Africa

Duties

• The installation, programming, inspection and maintenance of Residential Alarm Systems for all Chief of Mission (COM) residential properties in Pretoria.  The inspection and maintenance of electric fences intercoms and CCTV systems at all COM residences in Pretoria.  The RST also installs and maintains alarm radio transmitters and all equipment in the Central Alam Monitoring System.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

• All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate.
• All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam. 
• Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time 12 weeks upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

• Completion of secondary school and one year college diploma in electronics is required.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of all electronic security products is required.

Job Knowledge:

• Thorough knowledge of DSC and Napco Garmin Security products, video intercoms and the Oryx control room software is required.  Basic electronics knowledge is required.

Skills And Abilities:

• Ability to make quick decision on his own regarding security products and assist the RSC to create new ideas to better the security of all residences making sure everyone is safe. 
• Ability to crawl in small spaces in the roof area of residence is required. 
• Must possess valid South African driver's license to operate motor vehicle used to transport incumbent to each work location.
