RHHC Senior Professional Nurse at Lenmed Private Hospitals

Main Focus Areas

• The role of a Senior Professional Nurse is to function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area and to deliver direct patient care whilst co-ordinating and overseeing the nursing/ICU practice. To deputise for the ICU manager in his / her absence, driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.

Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
• In conjunction with the Unit manager be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of ICU teams, effectively motivating, and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork.
• To deputise for the Unit manager when necessary.
• To assist the Unit Manager in the management of staff within their Unit including specific induction, recruitment and selection, training, performance management, sickness/ absence and appraisals.
• Ensure that continuous training takes place in ICU.

Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
• Post basic qualification in ICU will be beneficial
• 2-3 years management or supervisory/shift leading experience in ICU will be advantageous
• Clinical knowledge of ICU essential
• Advanced Computer Literacy
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
• Flexible in working hours/Shifts
