Risk Manager at Sappi

The Role

• Sappi Southern Africa requires a Risk Manager to craft an integrated security risk management strategy, implement the risk reduction tactical plan and to identify, investigate and address risks, threats and crime-related activities in Sappi Forests Division.



This role reports to the General Manager Forests KZN

The main responsibilities of this job are:

• Investigate all crime and crime-related incidents by visiting crime scenes, interviewing witnesses and suspects to curb any criminal intent on Sappi Forests
• To manage and assist with criminal investigations that includes visiting of crime scenes, interviewing witnesses and suspects for the preventions of future risks and threats
• Process crime scenes by performing scene recognition, scene documentation and evidence collection to ensure a positive judicial outcome
• Observe the activities of suspects to build a case by using the available information
• Examine and evaluate evidence for conflicting interpretations and resolve issues
• Operate within the framework of the South African Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 to ensure lawful investigations and prosecution
• Manage the identification, apprehensionand motivate for the crime-related of perpetrators to minimise the risks on Sappi plantations
• Collect intelligence to build up a detailed knowledge of threats to Sappi Forests by using external stakeholders to help us to make decisions on how to respond to these threats and what protective measures to take
• Research and analyse information in all Sappi databases to investigate or to prevent a threat
• Prepare a case for court using thorough investigation, propoer handling of suspects and meticulous collection of evidence to bring justice to the company
• Manage security with the Forestry Managers through  interaction and involvement during crime related incidents or risks to Sappi Forests, and to minimise all risk to Sappi assets

The ideal candidate should have:

• National Diploma in Policing or related NQF Level 6 qualification
• A relevant bachelor’s degree in Law will be advantageous
• At least 5 years relevant experience
