    Rock Engineer X 1 REF:IVP-MTS-2502

    • IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to   develop this “mine of the future”. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

    Suitable candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Honours Degree (Mining Engineering, Geology, or related discipline).
    • Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate.
    • Strong knowledge of geotechnical monitoring systems and rock engineering software.
    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
    • An MSc / MEng with specialty Rock Engineering will be advantageous.

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience: 

    • 5 years’ proven experience in rock engineering,
    • Comprehensive understanding of MHSA and compliance requirements
    • Experience in underground massive mining methods will be advantageous.

    Your successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Provide rock engineering input into mine design, layout planning, and support strategies.
    • Conduct underground support audits, risk assessments, and geotechnical investigations.
    • Maintain, review, and implement the Code of Practice (COP) to combat rockfall and rockburst accidents.
    • Monitor ground stability using appropriate geotechnical monitoring systems.
    • Conduct numerical modelling to confirm mine layouts and sequencing.
    • Compile and present geotechnical reports to management and regulatory bodies (e.g. DMRE).
    • Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and other applicable regulations.
    • Mentor and train junior staff and mining teams on ground control standards and practices
