Rock Engineering Technician at Anglo American

Job Description:

Your additional responsibilities will include: 

• Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
• Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system to avoid these risks
• To undertake regular open pit visits to monitor compliance to Standards and Procedures and to identify areas with possible strata control problems
• Liaise with the open pit Supervisors
• Input relevant data into plans and layouts
• Monitor opencast conditions and report to the Strata Control Officer
• Support the Strata Control Officer with rock engineering information to compile reports.
• Do rock mass ratings during open pit visits to build up a database.
• Reporting on visual and radar monitoring

This role is in the Mineral Resource Management department at a C1 level reporting to the Pit Rock Engineer.

Qualifications:

You must have: 

• Grade 12 with Maths and Physical Science
• National Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering or National Diploma / Degree in Geology will be advantageous. 
• Exposure within the Rock Engineering environment will be advantageous
• Working Knowledge of MS Office
• Good written communication skills in English
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must be prepared to work shifts
• Must be in possession of a certificate of fitness
