    Safety Specialist - Cornubia

    Position Purpose :

    To provide practical specialist safety support within their Regional scope. Will help assist in the implementation of practical health and safety solutions, safety improvements, behavioral improvement programs, support GAP audits and HOP Learning teams, Safety Differently programs This role will have a high level of interaction with general salaried staff, operations.

    Major/Key Accountabilities :

    • Management of the Safety services for their Regions
    • Promote, coach and support safety ownership and continuous safety improvement processes throughout facility management teams and the wider functional and regional leadership within their areas of responsibility
    • Practical central management hub for all safety and environment improvements and regional support (e.g. segregation from risk, sharing adopting and innovation, on-site behavioral programs, HOP)
    • Drive engagement of new programs and support best practices implementation
    • Works with functional and site leaders to create a collaborative environment for safety and environmental continuous improvement both within Operations and the wider regional business
    • Support and provide specialist feedback on investigations to understand events and “real” underlying factors to negate the opportunity for incident repetition
    • Lead training in providing practical safety services to managers, leaders and safety professionals
    • Fosters and promotes a people first approach, through coaching of site leadership and driving a better understanding of leading through safety, understanding behavioral traits and moving away from blame.
    • Be a proactive, passionate leader in fostering best practice sharing throughout the Safety processes
    • Ensures compliance with all CHEP and Brambles Zero Harm and regulatory standards
    • Ensure minimum workers compensation costs and continually improve safety performance.
    • Lead and assist in machine guarding, pedestrian segregation and risk analyses
    • Be the number one contact for all leadership in the Regions for Safety related advice and guidance, encouraging local ownership of safety.
    • Compile monthly regional safety reports progress
    • Promote, coach and support learning teams (HOP)
    • Engage with management on sites to get feedback showing their level of support for safety.

    Challenges :

    • Production and cost controls versus staff safety
    • Manages this function and interacts with peers at similar or higher levels
    • Off-site facility safety improvements and dealing with client safety rules
    • Works by remote control with limited access to Safety Manager
    • Drives a new step up in the safety culture and leads by example
    • Dealing with diverse opinions, perceptions and attitudes
    • Ensuring accurate and proper reporting on Safety for the Region
    • Regional and territorial challenges across 42 sites

    Qualifications :

    • Tertiary 3-year qualification in Safety/HSE essential

    Experience :

    • Management experience in Safety and/or Worker’s Compensation.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in a specialist risk management role or operational implementation of safety
    • Experienced in practical safety solutions
    • Experience of working with regulatory bodies and labor representatives
    • Experienced in driving collaborative change
    • Effective at stakeholder relationships
    • Communications expertise in all aspects of leading the function
    • Purposeful team management experience
    • Working knowledge of Environmental compliance
    • Experience in changing safety through engineering controls
    • Managing and leading change in a highly matrix organization

    • Strong vision and principled approach.
    • Extremely well organized system motivated
    • The ability to build trust and excitement for safety within the region
    • Possesses a continuous drive for safety and environmental improvement
    • An effective communicator and influencer with an excellent level of verbal and written communications skills.
    • Displays a tenacity to drive compliance and action close out throughout within their region
    • Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety and environmental systems
