Scientist/Engineer: Process Control - MAC (Re-advert) at Mintek

Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

• Conduct research into advanced process control solutions, including modelling complex processes.
• Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization;
• Play a leading role in minor and support role in major research projects and the development of products from that research;
• Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget;
• Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency;
• Actively participate and play a support role in the training, guidance and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical decisions;
• Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences;
• Conceptualise, design, execute, analyse and troubleshoot with minimal oversight;
• Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division’s interests

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Engineer: B.Eng. Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical, or B.Sc Honours in an applicable field, e.g. physics or applied mathematics. Candidates must be willing to study further towards an M.Eng/M.Sc and PhD in a field aligned with Mintek’s research. An M.Sc or PhD in a field related to this post is preferred.
• Must be familiar with MATLAB or Python (prototyping of algorithms)
• 2 years vocational experience following first graduation (BSc Hon/BEng).
• The following skills/knowledge will be advantageous:
• Computer programming in C , C# or VB.NET
• Numerical analysis, solving differential equations
• Modelling of complex systems including mechanical, chemical and/or thermodynamic aspects.
