    Section Manager C & I

    Job Summary 

    The Section Manager Engineering – C&I is accountable for designing and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of advanced technology and networks associated with the mine’s modernisation programme. Accountabilities include identifying and executing C&I maintenance programmes, modernisation and maintenance projects and, interfaces between operational areas up to 3,000 meters underground and a surface-based centralised control centre. This includes managing tele-remote trackless fleet and plant operations from the surface control room, as well as overseeing C&I systems, field instruments, communication systems, access control, detection and monitoring systems, video surveillance, and advanced fleet monitoring systems while ensuring optimum safety standards are maintained.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Relevant engineering degree such as BSc Engineering, BEng, BTech Control and Instrumentation/Electronics, etc.
    • Proven track record of extensive practical experience in Instrumentation/Automation management at middle management level
    • Experience in Advanced Process Control (APC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA)
    • Experience in managing third party contractors and suppliers
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    • Demonstrated understanding and application of technical expertise, problem identification & problem solving within Control and Instrumentation techniques

    • Knowledge of project environment and interface between different engineering disciplines
    • Proven delivery focus with ability to implement processes and systems, set clear goals and standards, and take action to ensure attainment
    • Advanced practical Control and Instrumentation experience with sound appreciation for full mining operational value chain
    • In depth understanding of Operational Technology (OT) and the integration into the Corporate Information networks
    • Sound spoken and written English communication skills
    • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
    • Established problem-solving skills with appreciation for business optimisation methodologies e.g., lean-six sigma, etc.
    • Advanced appreciation for operationalising a strong working culture and challenges associated with the business

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in and lead various Safety, Health, and Environmental campaigns ensuring that effective auditing of C & I safety systems is maintained to enhance South Deep safety standards
    • Actively demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership to instil a pervasive commitment to safety and positive working behaviours
    • Ensure effective operational structures are maintained with clearly defined accountabilities and measurable outputs by which to assess C&I team performance and health of discipline
    • Drive a high performance culture aligned to clear operational delivery measures, results, and consequence with the Design, developing, testing, maintaining, and modifying existing systems.
    • Ensure that OT systems, processes, policies, and resources are in place and aligned to meet the short and long term demands of skills and competencies required by the C&I discipline
    • Develop a control and instrumentation management plan and processes to continuously improve critical equipment in instrumentation, networks, hardware, and software
    • Design and maintain the required calibration and maintenance of all equipment within the control solution
    • Refine and oversee the execution and testing of scheduled backups on all control systems
    • Research and investigate the latest technological trends and make proposals on appropriate implementation programmes to incorporate these into the business.
    • Align the C&I operational plan and maintenance regime to optimise C & I failure analysis and design appropriate remediation plans   
    • Continuously analyse C&I systems, processes and infrastructure to ensure optimal delivery and stability
