Senior Accountant / Junior Finance Manager at Mama Money

THE ROLE

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant / Junior Finance Manager who will assist the Senior Finance Manager with a range of tasks spanning process implementation and adherence, fixed asset management and mentoring of junior staff members. This role is based in Cape Town, South Africa. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, the scope of your role will be broad and will include:

• Ensure all accounts are reviewed and reconciled on a timely basis
• Preparation of various monthly, quarterly and annual reporting deliverables
• Analyze variances from forecasts / budget and interpretations thereof
• Liaising with the internal and external auditors and ensuring that audit deadlines are met and issues are addressed
• Preparation of statutory financial reports in line with the current regulatory requirements
• Preparation tax returns, including underlying supporting schedules (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, STATS SA, SARB)
• Work closely with the Treasury team to align operational and finance needs
• The caretaker of all Company policies relating to financial controls, procurement and other applicable areas
• Review of contracts
• Ensure that the costs of departments remain within budget and that any overspend is pre-approved within approval framework
• Maintain the integrity of the Fixed Asset Register
• Ensuring that payroll deadlines are adhered to and that all information is checked
• Full responsibility and accountability for accounts receivable, credit management, accounts payable and procurement functions
• Ensure that the business is adequately insured against risk
• Ensuring new processes are implemented and adhered to
• Responsibility for release rights with regards to payment runs
• Reviewing/Performing commission calculations
• Mentoring and training junior staff members
• Ad-hoc finance-related tasks and projects

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULD HAVE

• BCom / BA Accounting Degree
• Minimum 5 years’ post article/auditing experience, ideally within the payments industry or similar
• Accounting software - we use Xero and will provide necessary training if this is unfamiliar
• Payroll experience - we use PaySpace but have no preference in terms of the system previously used and will provide the necessary training
• Previous experience in management or team lead role with the ability to take the lead and guide junior team members
• Tax experience would be ideal but not essential
• Experience compiling financial statements would be ideal but not essential
• An investigative approach to your tasks - the ability to question things and not just accept
