    Senior Accountant: Operations

    Job Description

    • FEM is seeking a highly skilled and driven Senior Accountant: Operations to play a key role in adhering to and improving operational processes within the Operational Finance Department. This role ensures that all operational financial activities are executed accurately, timeously, and in line with FEM’s governance standards.
    • As a Senior Accountant: Operations, you will provide critical support to the Finance Manager by overseeing core operational finance activities, guiding junior team members, and contributing to continuous improvement across financial systems and processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented finance professional, who thrives in specialised environment and wants to broaden their exposure within the insurance industry.

    The key responsibilities of this role include:

    • Loading and reviewing bank payment releases with strict adherence to internal controls.
    • Preparing and reviewing (junior team members) monthly journals, trial balance reconciliations, and other month-end processing.
    • Preparing and reviewing (junior team members) Income Statement and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
    • Preparing monthly management reports for submission to the Finance Manager.
    • Preparing workings for quarterly statutory and regulatory reports.
    • Providing information for internal and external audit requests.
    • Verifying operational approvals in line with SOPs, legislation, and internal controls.
    • Supporting the preparation of the Operational budget and assessing actuals to budget.

    Education Requirements:

    • BCom Accounting / BCompt / BCom Financial Management or equivalent, or
    • CIMA/SAIPA
    • Newly qualified CA(SA), with 2 year’s finance experience
    • Non-CA(SA) with at least 5 years finance experience

    Other Requirements:

    • Experience with ERP systems (Sage, SAP, Pastel)
    • IFRS and regulatory knowledge
    • Experience in insurance or financial services
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • Knowledge of internal controls, and financial reporting
