Senior Accountant at Robert Walters

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a thriving finance team based in Cape Town. What you'll do:

As a Senior Accountant, you will play an integral part in ensuring the smooth operation of the finance department by taking charge of critical accounting functions.

• Lead the execution of the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to guarantee timely and precise financial reporting.
• Prepare comprehensive monthly management accounts, ensuring all information is complete, accurate, and submitted promptly to senior management.
• Maintain hands-on involvement throughout the full accounting cycle, including Accounts Payable, expense processing, reconciliations, and management account preparation, especially in areas with limited dedicated support.
• Review and validate the work completed by Accounts Payable and Expense Analysts to ensure accuracy, correct coding, and adherence to internal policies and procedures.
• Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations while safeguarding the integrity of general ledger accounts across all entities.
• Approve supplier invoices, employee expenses, and intercompany transactions to confirm completeness and accuracy in line with company standards.
• Collaborate closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) as well as other cross-functional teams to support robust financial reporting and insightful analysis.
• Identify opportunities for process enhancements that improve efficiency, accuracy, and strengthen internal controls within the finance function.
• Support both internal and external audits through timely preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation as required.
• Contribute to maintaining the integrity of accounting systems while assisting with system improvements when necessary.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Accountant in this role, your background should reflect

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is essential
• 4–6 years of progressive experience in accounting or bookkeeping within a multinational environment
• Demonstrated ability managing month-end close processes as well as performing thorough general ledger reconciliations
• A strong working knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle or NetSuite
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel along with other financial reporting
• Exceptional attention to detail combined with analytical skills
• Your ability to work independently while providing guidance to junior colleagues
• Excellent communication skills
