    Senior Advisor, Communications

    About the role

    Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

    • We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Communications to collaborate with the wider Rio Tinto Corporate Relations function and other members of the RBM Communications team to plan, deliver and monitor communications activities with a focus on external communications (media, brand and reputation, social and digital) in support of strong commercial outcomes and delivery of the RBM business plan and integrated Corporate Relations strategy.

    As a Senior Advisor, Communications you will:

    • Plan a rolling programme of focused, strategically driven external communications activity in close collaboration with the wider EMEA and Group CR teams
    • Deliver external communications activity including media engagement and responding to enquiries, social and digital media campaigns, updating the RBM sections of the Rio Tinto website, developing content for a number of channels.
    • Lead a strong focus on digital activities including the development and execution of a Social media plan.
    • Working with external parties as necessary, monitor and evaluate the impact of all activity to ensure effective use of resources.
    • Lead media engagement (in co-ordination with the Communications Manager to ensure that RBM and Rio Tinto’s reputation is protected and enhanced.
    • Monitor incoming media enquiries, develop and gain approval for responses and deliver an ongoing proactive media engagement plan.
    • Under the guidance of the Communications Manager, ensure all communications activities are aligned with both RBM and Rio Tinto Group policies, Standards and approaches, including ensuring full compliance with all approval and escalation processes.

    What you’ll bring

    • Degree level in Communications /Marketing /Journalism /Public Relations
    • Postgraduate degree and PRISA membership an advantage
    • Other Qualifications: Certificate in DTP (Desk Top Publishing) / Relevant software
    • 5 years or more experience in a media/communications role with an external focus; demonstrable experience effectively dealing with journalists for an international organisation – ideally in the resources sector.
