    Senior Data and Crime Analyst

    Job Objectives

    • Lead a team of data and crime analysts, providing guidance, training, and management.
    • Report directly to the Team Leader, ensuring effective communication and alignment with organisational goals.
    • Identify and interpret criminal incidents, patterns, and trends.
    • Forecast trends to aid in the prevention of criminal incidents.
    • Collect, review, evaluate and summarise data from multiple sources, databases and CiiMS.
    • Produce crime analysis products (analytical, intelligence, court documents, link reports etc.) to disseminate within the department as well as nationally.
    • Proactively conduct analysis on all available and relevant sources of data for patterns, hotspots, modus operandi, case linkages, suspect and vehicle identification and profiling, trends and/or anomalies that may be of value and that contributes towards improving operational effectiveness.
    • Analyse incident reports to determine patterns and trends in criminal activity.
    • Capture incidents on the centralised database (CiiMS).
    • Conduct quality assurance on all data, information and intelligence captured on CiiMS, and documents produced by the team to ensure application, analysis, and reputational integrity.
    • Conduct database clean-ups to ensure effective and efficient use thereof.
    • Testify in court regarding analysis performed and findings as part of an investigation.
    • Write comprehensive reports and prepare presentations for management and stakeholders, highlighting clear trends and making suitable recommendations.
    • Train service providers and internal resources where and if necessary.
    • Provide support on CiiMS and other professional activities within the department as required.
    • Build and maintain sound working relationships with internal employees, service providers and any other relevant role-players, establishing and maintaining effective and open lines of communication.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Criminology, Forensics, Risk Management, or a related field - (essential).
    • Post Graduate Degree in the above or related fields – (desired).

    Experience

    • +5 years’ experience in a similar role with demonstrable experience and practical knowledge analysing, investigating, producing, and reporting comprehensive data and insights on crime and risk behaviour, processes, and statistics - (essential)
    • Moderate to advanced experience with CiiMS - (essential).
    • Experience using data analysis software including crime mapping systems - (essential).
    • Experience in overseeing tasks and allocating resources. Ability to set clear objectives, delegate tasks, and monitor team performance to ensure successful outcomes – (desired).
    • Research capability along with sound knowledge of statistical methodologies - (essential).
    • Experience in a retail environment - (desired).
