About the SEO Trending team

The SEO Trending templates squad creates beautiful trending templates to support our SEO expansion. Using the best SEO research, a dash of design intuition and trend forecasting - we aim to expand Canva’s appeal into every market. We tap into a strong local design talent, enabling us to create relevant designs to inspire Canva users around the world. A diverse design culture enables us to produce high quality designs at scale. Collaboration is key to achieving crazy big content goals and you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with a global creative team.

Goals you will achieve in the first 6-12 months 

Your goal as Senior Designer will be to contribute to the creation of trending templates for our SEO and content expansion. In collaboration with an Art Director, you will work with the squad and creative lead to identify content opportunities & create relevant, beautiful and high quality templates for our users. You will help evaluate design needs and opportunities within the trending space, both for templates and other business units (if the need arises), and then work with your team to deliver those needs. You will be integral to creating beautiful trending templates that address the business need for content for Canva users. You will be responsible for properly briefing and supporting a team of junior designers to provide quality templates for our users. You will also be responsible for briefing vendors such as photographers, illustrators and motion designers. Collaboration and communication are key to successfully achieving these goals.

Your responsibilities

• Assisting with researching and articulating key trends within design and social media space
• Providing strategic and creative advice on key trends to other business units.
• Creating bespoke designs, variations and recreations for our users
• Mentoring, briefing and supporting a team of junior designers
• Briefing photographers, illustrators and motion designers
• Work with copywriters to make sure template content suits the design
• Providing feedback on junior designers work to maintain quality and make sure all designs adhere to the clients brand guidelines
• Ensure templates are ‘unbreakable’ before releasing them
• Work with team to improve the Canva Trending Templates offering
• Collaborate on projects across teams

Experience you'll need

• 4 - 5+ years experience as a Graphic Designer, Senior Designer or a lead role creating a diverse range of designs
• A strong sense of design principles
• The ability to adapt brand guidelines to multiple uses
• An excellent visual eye for timeless as well as trending design styles and the intuition to know when to use which.
• The ability to identify key trend opportunities
• Experience in mentoring/managing junior designers or a team, can instruct other designers on craft, to get their designs closer to the concept vision
• The ability to initiate and lead design projects
• A strong portfolio demonstrating your passion for designing clean, elegant, and beautiful designs
• The ability to work collaboratively in a creative team environment
• Diligence to hit deadlines
