    Senior Director | Economic and Financial Consulting

    About the Job
    About The Role

    • We help our clients navigate legal, regulatory and international arbitration proceedings while supporting strategic decision making and public policy debates around the world. Delivering incisive interpretation of complex economic issues has made us a global leader in this field.
    • Senior Directors in the Economic and Financial Consulting practice are responsible for planning, supervising, performing and finalizing economic research reports for clients and presenting the results. This involves managing internal resources (economists and financial analysts) as well as liaising directly with clients.
    • They are expected to manage the day-to-day activities of projects and matters from start to finish. For Senior Directors, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients is critical. They must demonstrate the ability to fully lead and manage client matters with minimal input or edits from senior team members and effectively manage and meet the client's expectations at all times. Senior Directors should also be undertaking business development activities and assist in identifying new work opportunities.

    What You'll Do

    • Manage and oversee complex research projects to ensure that client needs are met within specified timelines and budget
    • Maintain up-to-date client and internal resource records via FTI's financial systems
    • Prepare and deliver economic reports through independent research and teamwork
    • Prepare project budgets and research proposals for prospective clients
    • Attend client meetings and present results
    • Oversee and conduct quantitative economic analyses
    • Cultivate strong relationships with prospective and existing clients
    • Stay up to date with developments in South Africa's policy and business environment
    • Coach and guide junior team members to develop their core strengths
    • Provide research support at cases in front of the Competition Tribunal and other regulators
    • Drafting and writing expert economic reports

    Key Requirements

    • At least a Master's degree in economics
    • Professional work experience in a consulting or research environment, ideally with a focus on competition litigation matters
    • Excellent knowledge of South Africa's policy environment
    • Experience in competition economics, industrial organization or policy research
    • Ability to manage projects from conceptualization to delivering the final report
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Ability to guide a team and pull different inputs into a coherent story
    • A proven track record of completed projects
    • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in fast-paced, multi-task environment
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
    • Excellent analytic and quantitative skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to handle and analyse complex data
    • High level of proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Experience in presenting research results to clients
    • Experience in using statistical packages such as Stata, R and E-Views will be advantageous
    • Strong work ethic and integrity and high level of professionalism.
    • Willingness to travel
