Senior Engineer Electric Vehicle Systems (uYilo) 3 year fixed- term contract (9302) at Nelson Mandela University

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

• The Senior Engineer will play a key role in delivering mobility and energy system projects within the national electric mobility programme. The candidate will have interactions with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery and will need to provide technical lead and support on topics related to integration of systems and    sub-systems, including market research and data analysis. As a dynamic environment, supporting functions and responsibilities will evolve, therefore flexibility and adaptability will be key.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Engineering

• Research and development of the electric mobility ecosystem
• Alignment of technical specifications, standards and other data to evaluate the functionality, cost, and maintenance requirements of projects, designs or applications
• Support the development, assembly, operation and maintenance of vehicle and energy systems and infrastructure
• Ensure all work is done in accordance with acceptable engineering methods and principles

Project Management

• Development of project plans, timelines, budgets and resource requirements
• Manage allocated project resources to ensure project delivery with staff, stakeholders and sub-contractors
• Documentation of projects according to internal and external administration standards
• Sourcing of new projects and business opportunities

General:

• Provide support for electric vehicle system and energy system related projects
• Maintain alignment to technology and market trends for scoping and delivery of projects
• Reporting to senior leadership

CORE COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or Technical equivalent

Minimum Experience:

• At least 5 years relevant experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment for the responsibilities (excluding internship and trainee positions).

Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience and Personal Qualities:

• Professional Registration: Engineering Council of South Africa (Acquired / Initiated)
• Complimentary Business Management post-graduate qualification
• Strong knowledge of Automotive and Renewable Energy systems
• Prior experience with Electric Vehicles
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance across a range of stakeholders
• Team player with strong desire to support team success
• Enthusiasm for technology (mobility and renewable energy)
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
