Senior Engineer, Mechanical at Exxaro Resources

PURPOSE:

• To deliver expert technical support in engineering discipline in projects and to contribute effectively to development of the Group's business growth and operations.

Minimum Requirements    
QUALIFICATIONS:

• BEng Mechanical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
• BSc Mechanical Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
• Gov Cert of Competence: Engineering (Recommended/Desirable)
• Management Development Programme (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE:

• 6-8 years Relevant experience in Maintenance, Hazard identification, Risk assessment, Procurement, Project Engineering, Design, Erection and Installation, Contract and Project Management, in Heavy Industry  (Essential/Minimum) Operational

REQUIREMENTS: 

• Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
• Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Essential/Minimum)

Duties & Responsibilities    
The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

• Best Practice and Knowledge Management  
•  Protection of Intellectual property
• Create and manage professional networks
• Participate in engineering forums, tertiary educational relationships, professional external forums, relevant Communities of Practice (CoP's) and in any innovation processes
• Budget and Cost Control  
•  Manage cost recovery
• Design for efficiency
• Manage own expenditure
• Manage project capital budget
• Actively support functional manager to achieve best practice in relevant asset management and stay-in-business capital initiatives

Business Performance and Operations  

•  Support service delivery within department and project budget parameters
• Technical contribution in individual skill area based on sound principles
• Increase awareness of technical advancements to ensure access to appropriate technology to meet business deliverables and can expand technical base to access new areas of business
• Ensure design for operability and maintainability
• Design in accordance with relevant specifications and proficiency
• Adhere to appropriate quality management systems
• Ensure skills and technology communication to business units
• Ensure that written reports are produced and delivered to client in accordance with Group standards
• Oversee the execution of fit for purpose engineering design
• Support the implementation of design philosophy

Compliance, Governance and Assurance  

• Support technology capabilities involved in project execution and delivery within Engineering discipline
• Ensure compliance to sound engineering standards and quality
• Ensure that latest legislative and Company requirements are adhered to with specific reference to engineering designs
• Ensure a standardised approach to service delivery is followed within discipline
• Ensure compliance to all standards and procedures
• Participate in Group wide and BU audits and compliance processes

Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management  

• Provide expert technical support and direction to project teams and business units
• Identify needs and support line management with technical issues

Effective People Management  

•  Adhere to the systems and initiatives to drive performance excellence
• Contribute to high-performance teams
• Articulate, adopt, embrace and live the Company’s values

Functional Excellence  

• Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end to end processes, tools, templates etc.
• Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication and bureaucracy
• Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices and knowledge
• Maintain a balanced approach between Exxaro Group and BU processes to support and achieve functional excellence

Process Support

•  Support the execution of discipline and project strategy
• Comply to metrics and targets for business process structure
• Participate in new fit for purpose discipline specific projects in support of the Group’s strategic objectives
• Ensure recoverable hours across projects

•  Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) policies and procedures in line with set standards
