    Senior Financial Lines Underwriter

    As an underwriter, you will have personal and collective responsibility for the growth and profitability of D&O, working with brokers throughout the SA market. You will be responsible for execution of the D&O underwriting strategy in conjunction with local product-line management. This includes development and underwriting new and renewal business in line with Chubb appetite. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and develop valuable broker relationships and profitably grow the portfolio with key broker partners.

    You will be expected to hold and share strong subject matter knowledge in D&O and to go above and beyond in the pursuit of team success. You will be expected to earn and hold underwriting authority in line with business appetite and your technical ability.

    The role is based in Johannesburg, reporting to Financial Lines management with matrix reporting into regional referral points. The successful candidate would be expected to travel locally and internationally from time-to-time in the fulfilment of their role.

    Your Resonsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:

    • Managing and underwriting a personal renewal portfolio and delivery of new business towards team retention and new business targets.
    • Ensure all accounts are underwritten to Chubb standards of underwriting integrity, appetite and service and are within authorities. Ensure quality referrals for risks outside of authority. Ensure portfolio integrity and underwriting quality through regular reviews, management meetings and peer reviews.
    • Contribute to meeting the production and underwriting margin financial objectives and business plans – delivering profitable growth in line with plan.
    • Manage and develop key broker relationships and personal and teams market profile. Regularly monitor key producer acquisition and retention data.
    • Work closely with distribution and marketing and wider internal stakeholders to drive business development opportunities, including new business strategies and execute on a personal pipeline of new business opportunities.
    • Regular financial and management reporting, forecasting and planning - ensuring accuracy and understanding of key drivers.
    • Teamwork with operations (agreed processes followed to ensure quality service, data and time standards), compliance (work within the framework of Chubb ethical, compliance and underwriting policies and service standards) and claims.
    • Passionate about delivering exceptional underwriting service to brokers and policyholders.
    • Chubb Representative: To represent and promote Chubb and maintain a permanent contact with internal colleagues and clients as well as major clients

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (matric) and qualification as a registered FAIS representative (including RE5 completion) is a minimum.
    • Bachelor’s degree or above in finance and accounting is an advantage.
    • Industry related qualification (AIISA or similar NQF level 6 or above) is an advantage.
    • English - good written and verbal communication skills are a requirement.
    • Financial Lines underwriting experience (3-5 years) with a good reputation as a technical Underwriter. Experience within a MN insurer is an advantage
    • Dynamic business developer with strong established broker relationships and reputation is required
    • Excellent communicator with strong negotiation skills.
    • Strong analytical, financial analysis and excel skills.
    • FAIS accredited representative with necessary regulatory approval a requirement.
