    Senior Financial Manager – Reporting

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

    To provide finance and commercial-related services and support to managers in the Africa Region toward maximizing the value from AngloGold Ashanti’s operating and project assets in the Africa Region consistent with the Company’s Vision and Values. The role also supports the Finance & Commercial disciplines in the Africa Region.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • A degree qualification in accounting or related field preferably CA qualification
    • Well-developed industry networks
    • Strong Technical Accounting knowledge
    • HFM experience
    • Risk and compliance experience
    • +10 years Finance experience
    • Audit Committee experience
    • Business Planning experience and cost reviews
    • Willing to travel
    • Accounting processes and systems knowledge (SAP
    • Strong track record in business improvement and change management

    ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    Financial Reporting

    • Oversee the finalisation of the monthly reporting packs onto HFM according the reporting time lines
    • Identify and drive resolution of financial reporting and accounting issues including non-compliance with accounting policies, accounting directives and procedures across area of responsibility and make recommendations for resolution where appropriate.
    • Liaise with the group financial reporting team on the resolution of accounting and financial reporting issues as necessary
    • Identify and query tax liability positions and escalate to next level where appropriate and consolidate and confirm tax exposure positions.
    • Integration and coordination of issues to ensure reporting packs address all issues as at period end.
    • Advice mines on how to resolve accounting and financial reporting issues.
    • Report period end numbers in HFM area of responsibility ensuring accuracy, consistency and completeness of financial results
    • Close out reporting entities in HFM ( including general ledger positions) which was subjected to a transaction /restructuring process during the reporting period.
    • Monitor funding positions and the impact of that on the reporting packs including dividend and earnings  levels.
    • Advice mines on environmental positions that can impact the financial reporting process at period end.
    • Assist in drafting Financial Accounting guidance and policy documents including Position Papers on the Accounting treatment of issues noted in the reporting packs
    • Review HFM submissions, reporting appendices and execute consolidation process of reporting packs
    • Review forecasted positions, discuss and clear issues and align reporting packs in HFM as necessary.
    • Review and evaluate cash flow and funding positions and align reporting packs in HFM as necessary specifically from a Balance Sheet point of view
    • Review budget and business planning positions and populate and consolidate the numbers in the HFM reporting packs as necessary
    • Provide input and support in developing training materials for financial  reporting and accounting training.
    • Provide financial information to external auditors on request for relevant area of responsibility and resolve external audit queries as necessary.
    • Attend external audit close out position upon completion of the audits/ reviews at the end of each Quarter end.
    • Conduct reviews of the general ledger at all individual operations to identify potential accounting issues, draft reports containing findings and recommendations and management comments and assist with resolutions per individual mine site and escalate issues where appropriate
    • Improve financial reporting systems and processes and align these initiatives to the strategic objectives of the Region

    Financial Reporting Compliance/ Governance

    • Monitor the performance of mines to submit reporting packs according to the time ( measurement of performance takes place per reporting tracker)
    • Ensure compliance with existing SOX and General Finance controls in area of responsibility.
    • Oversee and consolidate SOX 302 assessments for Africa
    • Provide input into the design/redesign of financial reporting SOX controls.
    • Advice on the implementation  of general finance controls and assessing adherence to financial reporting practices
    • Attend Mine and Africa Audit Committee meetings and provide input on financial reporting and governance matters.
    • Provide input into the design and implementation of SAP at the mines/entities.

    Management Accounting:

    • Siguiri Mine Budget: Manage, co-ordinate and collate the submission process to ensure the results are accurate, timeous, complete and validated.
    • Drive long and short-term planning, new options and optimise the balance between current operations cash flow, asset development, survival and new business development.
    • Providing Siguiri with meaningful business analysis that is, insightful, reliable and timeous that will ensure business objectives are met in the most effective manner leading to value preservation and/or enhancement
    • Developing cost and business analysis models for operations to be used to determine appropriate cost levels given changes in production profiles and other variables impacting on the mines profitability.
    • Design and implement systems and processes to support reporting requirements with ongoing system improvements to Siguiri such that the business is provided with the relevant information in order to make informed timeous decisions.
    • Pro-actively identify emerging trends, risk areas, compliance to plans, cash optimization opportunities and general efficiencies through review, analysis, interrogation and the interpretation
    • Work closely with Siguiri stakeholders to identify and confirm emerging issues and trends and identify steps to be taken.
    • On-time proactive monthly and annual management reporting, interpretation and recommendations for business implementation through the use of operational and financial understanding and experience.

    REMUNERATION: 
    As per the AGA salary scales.

    REPORTING LINE:
    The role reports to the Vice President: Finance and Commercial Africa.
