Senior Garment Engineer at TFG (The Foschini Group)

The opportunity:

• This role will be an integral member of the Product Development team, to ensure our products meets price point and margin requirements, while maintaining quality and design integrity. 
• Organizational relationships
• This role will involve Product Development, Design, Pattern and Production teams to ensure complete product optimization from concept to manufacture ready.

Reports to the Head of Product

Responsibilities:

• Work with the design team to develop product
• Extensive  technical and construction knowledge with the ability to amend / assess garments with respect to production specifications , cost price and price  point while maintaining design integrity.
• An understanding of pattern cutting in order to work closely with the in-house team. Specking up woven &knit garments (measurements and technically)
• Ensure garments adhere to our standards of quality and sizing specifications from development through to production stage.
• Measure & prepare garments for fit meetings which you will conduct: making comments & updating paperwork accordingly.
• Provide all information on the specification of the product to ensure Production have all the information they need to avoid any foreseeable problems.
• Approve grade specifications as required
• Work with the CMT to develop new techniques in line with the designer’s vision /ensure an understanding of the skills & techniques of the fact.
• Consult with the production team regarding feedback for pre-production and production samples.
• Work with the Design team to ensure we are developing a product that will eventually reach a commercial price point. 
• Ensure  all prototypes and PPS samples and ensure a timely delivery for all these
• To facilitate with Quality , testing of any garments where appropriate including wearer trials and dry clean testing.
• Brand awareness, knowledge of market and peer groups in regards to make, quality, price, style

Requirements:

• 3-5 years’ experience in Product Development / Garment Technologist  
• Experience working with mainstream and value chain level product  
• 3-5 years' Good understanding and experience of dealing with factories  
• Experience in attending & running fit meetings.  
• Understanding of garment specifications and construction techniques across woven, C+S & knit product
