Senior Laboratory Analyst Gr 1 (Day Shift) (Mpumalanga - Secunda)
Prepare for and conduct laboratory testing and analysis by setting up equipment, preparing samples, performing tests and experiments, adhering to testing protocols, and completing the necessary administration.
Perform quality control on laboratory procedures by conducting audits, verifying tests and analyses, identifying discrepancies or anomalies, and resolving issues within specified deadlines.
Optimise testing and analysis processes by identifying and evaluating new methodologies, verifying their relevance and accuracy, obtaining approval, conducting training, and implementing improvements as required.
Supervise the disposal of laboratory solvents, chemicals, and hazardous materials by overseeing proper handling, monitoring disposal in line with safety standards, providing mentoring and training, and ensuring all related administration is completed.
Conduct analyses and reporting by reviewing laboratory data, identifying trends, validating results against defined standards, compiling reports, and presenting findings within required timeframes.
Provide training and mentoring by identifying development needs, creating training content, delivering sessions, demonstrating procedures, monitoring application of learning, and completing related administrative tasks.
Comply with established processes through accurate implementation, continuous process awareness, and timely resolution of any areas of concern.
Propose process improvements by identifying opportunities, presenting recommendations to the line manager, and supporting suggestions with relevant information and insights.
Implement and manage expenditure within budget by understanding cost components, approving spend in alignment with financial policies, and conducting monthly reviews.
Monitor actual expenditure by analyzing financial reports, identifying anomalies or areas of concern, and executing timely corrective actions
Manage service provider performance by tracking service level agreements, monitoring delivery against standards, identifying issues, and applying corrective actions when necessary.
Contribute to the sustainability strategy of the department.
Ensure that the operations are aligned with sustainability principles, minimising environmental impact.
Requirements
Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent
National Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or similar
5+ years as laboratory technician, analyst or similar position in a process chemical operation and/or metals industry
