Senior Laboratory Technician C3 SR at Sibanye-Stillwater

Job Purpose:

• The Senior Laboratory Technician is accountable for the supervision of the Laboratory team to deliver timeous and accurate analytical data

Minimum Required Qualification:

• NQF 6 (Diploma) or NQF 7 (bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma) in Chemistry

The Appointee should:

• NQF 6 (Diploma) or NQF 7 (bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma) in Chemistry
• At least 3 years chemistry experience within a laboratory environment.
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
• Clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)

Key Responsibilities:

• Laboratory Security and stock management  Capture material transactions incl. waybills, registers, LIMS  Issue/authorise/approve waybills for material transactions in the Laboratory as per defined role.  Issue internal waybills for material transfers  Order and receive Laboratory stocks.  Maintain stock levels of equipment, reagents and consumables required by the laboratory Laboratory Instrumentation and Equipment  Conduct maintenance on instrumentation and equipment.  Calibrate and re-standardise instruments and equipment.  Be familiar with the Laboratory Information Management Systems Sample Preparation  Determine the particle size distribution of samples by means of the sieving technique and/or by means of a particle size analyser.  Prepare samples for analysis and capture sample data into the LIMS Analysis  Perform analysis by means of X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)Spectrometry  Quantify analyte concentrations in prepared samples by means of wet chemical and instrumentation analysis.  Perform analysis on AA instrumentation  Perform Analysis by ICP-OES  Perform Analysis by ICP-MS  Perform PGM + Au Analysis by Fire Assay  Perform Analysis SAFT  Perform Analysis by LECO  Capture sample data and analytical data into the LIMS  Compile laboratory reports Reagents & Standards Prepare standards and stock solution and prepare calibration standards.  Measure QC standards according to all relevant methods and report results where necessary. Take corrective action when QCs are out of limits or reports anomalies to responsible person.  Validate standards and methods Stakeholder Relations  Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.  Ensure open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders including other personal assistants and secretaries.
• SHE Compliance  Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.  Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.  Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures in terms of SHERQ Management:  Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department.  Quality Management System (QMS) to be upheld in terms:  Maintaining department’s documents.  Comply with requirements of the ISO 17025. People Management  Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff including Competency evaluations.  Manage performance and development of reporting staff. Ensure fair work allocation for team members.  Inspire team members towards high performance.  Chemicals and consumable stock management.  Manage QA/QC for the reporting of results with the Quality management system.  Ensure Timeous Reporting of results.
