Senior Lecturer/Lecturer History and English Education at Nelson Mandela University

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

• To teach History and English at undergraduate and post graduate level. To contribute to Faculty administration as required.

• Facilitation of teaching students how to teach English at undergraduate and post graduate studies.
• Facilitation of teaching students how to teach History at undergraduate and post graduate studies.
• A sound knowledge of strategies for assessing learning in History and English.
• A sound knowledge of strategies for assessing learning in English and History.
• Ability to adapt History and English teaching to the diversity of interests and aptitudes of students.
• Ability to develop teaching materials in History and English.
• Active presentation of research papers at conferences
• Ability to conduct scholarly work with an increasing focus on Africanisation and decolonization of History and English.
• Ability to develop and inculcate a culture of reading.

REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of academic qualifications in English as well as History
• Experience in teaching English and History at school level
• A sound disciplinary and content knowledge in English and History

Senior Lecturer:

• PHD degree in Education or equivalent for Senior Lecturer
• Experience (1-5 years) in teaching English as well as History at university level will be an added advantage
• Experience in supervising or co-supervising students at post graduate level for Senior Lecturer
• Proven research record for Senior Lecturer

Lecturer:

• M Ed or equivalent for Lecturer
• Experience (2+ years) in teaching English as well as History at university level will be an added advantage
