    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • Teach the undergraduate and honours modules.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and Learning:

    • Undergraduate and honours Chemistry modules.

    Research:

    • Lead research and supervise students at the master's and doctoral levels.

    Community Engagement:

    • Contribute to community engagement and support departmental administrative functions.

    OHS:

    • Adhere to OHS protocols.

    Administration:

    • Perform other duties assigned by the line manager.

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Physical or Analytical Chemistry.
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ lecturing experience.
    • Post-graduate supervision and training experience.

    RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • Membership with the South African Chemical Institute.
    • At least 1 publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Effective lecturing of undergraduate and post-graduate Physical or Analytical Chemistry theory courses at university level.
    • Lead research and supervise students at master’s and doctoral levels.
    • The ability to run specialised equipment in the Chemistry research laboratory.
    • The ability to carefully analyse data and use logic to address issues and problems at work.
    • Participate in community and Industry projects.
    • Excellent computer skills for teaching and learning, and administration.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Good time management.
