Senior Legal Counsel at Unilever

Main Accountabilities:
Membership of Leadership Team(s) / Business Partnering

• Provide legal support across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.

Risk

• Under the guidance of SLC
• identify legal risks and helps the business navigate them, providing legally compliant creative solutions which deliver competitive advantage to the business objectives taking into account cost, risk and other consequences.
• Ensures legal compliance of Category projects, activities and contracts.
• Autonomously identify and manage legal and contract risks, their impact and practically how to manage/comply with these
• Develop and deliver relevant guidance and training

Legal Advice
Customer Development:

• Under the guidance of SLC
• Review and draft commercial contracts
• Ensure compliance with competition law

Supply Chain:

• Under the guidance of SLC
• Autonomously draft and advise on procurement agreements including complex agreements
• Tax / regulatory advise relating to import / export agreements

Marketing:
Provides risk-based advice to Brand Building on:

• Marketing, advertising and promotional materials and related issues
• Participate in various Claims Forums on a monthly basis to assess legal risk of Marketing projects
• Marketing and promotional agreements

Functional Leadership (External)

• Understanding of all relevant laws and new legislation and communicate the impact to the business
• Track legal developments and best practice

Budget Responsibility

• Adhere to law firm guidelines

Training

• Provides and delivers training programmes on relevant marketing law issues, including training and advice to Brand Building on the application of law in the context of business objectives, including Marketing and IP law.
• Trains and advises Customer Development & Supply Chain on the application of law in the context of business objectives, including competition law

Minimum Requirements:

• LLB or relevant qualification
• Qualified / Admitted Attorney
• +-5 years post admission experience
• Experience in an FMCG or manufacturing environment
